In my previous post, i mentioned that the seafood dinner i had at Sai Kung was not satisfactory as the food was mediocre but very expensive, and my HK buddy, Tony, told me about another place where we can have seafood at a more affordable rate. After so many weeks, we finally visited this place. More information about seafood at Sai kung can be found in this post.
The place is at Po Toi O, 布袋澳 . From HKUST, we had to take a bus down to Po Lam MTR station, and transfer to another mini bus, number 16. Take note that on friday and weekends, the frequency of minibus 16 is 30 minutes! Whats worst is that the last bus is at 8.30pm, meaning that we have to call a cab after dinner (which will probably be much later then 8.30pm). However, on Fridays and weekends, there will be another minibus service to take us from the restaurant to Hang Hau MTR.
The journey on minibus 16 was quite a terrible one. The journey was very long, almost 30 minutes, and the route was full of bends. Most of us felt very dizzy and nauseous when we arrive at the restaurant.
You can’t miss this sign.
The group:
There is a 5 minutes walk from the bus stop to the restaurant. Pretty run down place, thats why it is cheaper
Lots of dried groceries along the way.
Like all other seafood restaurant, there is a showcase of the different types of seafood there. This will also be the place where we decide which fish or lobster we wish to fry up for dinner. Again… it sounds cruel.
These weird things disgust me. I wonder who will dare to try them.
And a picture of our dinner, before it is officially dinner.
A group picture during meal, well actually after the meal.
Food:
Crab … deep fried and later sir fried with some sauce. It so crunchy that we can just bite through the shell.
One of my favorites, Scallop! HKD$15 per piece only!!!
The fish was really fresh, but of course… it was still alive 10 minutes ago.
Voted favorite dish of the night, Bamboo clam. The ones at this restaurant looks HUGE and JUICY. We only ordered 3 as we thought that the serving would be huge.
Unfortunately we were wrong, this is all there is in one bamboo clam. However, it tastes very sweet and it is nothing like squid which is basically tasteless.
The usual Staple.
This fried rice looks normal, but it is actually fried with fish roe. Expensive stuff you know…
For all that we ate, it costs us HKD$880! So divided by 5 … its around HKD$165 (SGD$31). Pretty good price for the dishes.
Our next stop was dessert! Yep … despite being quite full, we cannot end the night without desserts! After all, this is HONGKONG!
We took a minibus (there is only one service there at that time) back to Hang hau MTR station where we had our desserts. I cannot remember the name of the shop, neither did i take any pictures of the sign board. But if i go there again, i’ll remember to take a picture of it.
Mine! Strawberry beancurd. Nice! but I am not a real strawberry person, hence its only so so to me.
Mango pudding with some sago and sweeten jelly. This is VERY VERY nice, despite the looks of it.
Mango dessert with almond jelly and sago. Very very nice also, i’m going to try this in the future. I just love the taste of almond.
Mango-sago-pamelo with beancurd.
Ahh, iced honey dew flavored with beancurd.
It was a good night! Another check on my “things left to do” check list.
