Hong Kong RC Consolidation

This is a consolidation of a list of RC shops found in Hong Kong.

I was in Hong Kong for around 5 months during 2008 for an exchange program and I took the opportunity of visit as many RC shops I can find. I got my information through the locals there as well as from people whom have visited HK previously. The pictures of the maps are from the Hong Kong Online Map website – www.centamap.com. I do not own any of the pictures of the maps, thus if anybody (who has the authority) feels that they should be taken down, please drop me an email at chyenw@xoluxion.net.

The list is in order of preference, where the most highly recommended shop as ranked at the top.

Rank #1:

Top Tech Trading Co.
Rm 1407, Good Hope Building
No.5 Sai Yeung Choi Street South,
Mongkok, Kowloon

This is by far my favorite shop. They have a very wide range of RC Helicopter products, as well as electronics. Of all the shops I have visited in HK, this shop has the best prices which are significantly cheaper than all other shops in HK. If you are in HK for only a short while and would really like purchase some RC gear, than Toptech is the place for you. I’ll think that this is a one stop shop for most of you RC heli needs.

On the side note, I was warned by many locals that despite the excellent prices, the owner of the shop, Michael, is well known for his bad recommendations of products. In a nut shell, before you visit this shop, be clear of what you want to buy and DO NOT ask for his recommendations. This also means that if you are a newbie in this hobby, I suggest you visit this place with an experienced friend or you may end up with items which you may not need or are not suitable. They do give a 10% discount if you purchase above a certain amount (I think it is HKD3000 or HKD4000), so remember to ask for it!

Another plus point about this shop is that it is located in the heart of a bustling street. Mongkong is HK is well known to tourists and it is a must visit place. There are lots of shops for both guys and girls. So if you are traveling with your spouse, they can spend their time walking along the streets along the building where the shop is located (14th floor) while you get busy with your RC shopping.

Products listing:

Align
JR Helicopters
Hirobo
Futaba
JR Radios
Hitec Electronics
Toptech products (nuts, cap washers, etc …)
Curtis Youngblood products (blades, electronics, etc…)
Funkey products
Many many more…

Take special note that the electronics sold in this shop is exceptionally cheap. If you are in need of any electronic products such as radio, servos, gyro etc… this is the place for you!

They also have a second-hand display where there are some items which people put for sale. Remember to check it out. I bought a Hyperion 12S charger for only HKD800. Works perfectly and in excellent condition!!

Rank #2

Skytech RC
12 Kwong Wa Street

Skytech is ranked number #2 in my choice of HK RC shops is because of the friendliness of the staffs there. During my stay in HK, I have visited this shop many times; asking tons of questions about their products and pricing, and even flying site, but did not spend a cent there. However, despite that, the staffs are always so eager to entertain my questions. Thus, if you are somebody who needs advice or would just like to have a good chat about RC in Hong Kong, then DO visit Skytech RC!

On the side note, this is the shop which Georges, owner of Scorpion products (Motors and ESC), trust to build his ION-X. I met Georges during one of my visits to Skytech, and he managed to fill me in with some pretty good information about Scorpion products. He was also able to hook me up with a HK4035 Scorpion Heli motor.

On the side, note, Skytech does carry a pretty good range of products.

Hyperion products including A123 batteries
Scorpion motors and ESC.
JR Products
Futaba Products
SAB Blades
Align products
A pretty good range of planes

Rank #3

Waigo hobby (www.waigohobby.com)

G/F., No.7-8 Tung Fong Street
Yaumatei, Kowloon
Hong Kong
Mon – Sat: 10:30 – 20:00
Closed on Sunday

Ranked the 3rd in my list of HK RC is because they are the distributors of Funkey products. I was able to get Funkey main rotor blades and tail blades at a very good price as compared the price in Singapore. They carry a small range of align products, but they have a pretty good range of Futaba products, including many small spare parts on the radio.

Product list:

Funkey
Curtis Youngblood
V-blades
Funtech blades!
Futaba products, excellent range of products.
Hirobo

I’ll only recommend this shop if you are looking for blades. If not, I’ll suggest Toptech (Rank #1) instead. On the side note, if you are on your way to Kwong Wa street, the supposedly RC heaven in HK, you can just pop by this shop as it is along the way.

Other shops (Not ranked according to preference)

Flying – Hobby (www.flying-hobby.com)
Room 5, 5/F ,Cheung Hing Building,
46 Pitt Street,Yau Ma Tei, KLN ,HK  (MTR  Yau Ma Tei A2 Exit)

I don’t exactly frequent this shop. I’ve only been there once, but I’ll list this here because I believe that many of the RC hobbyists from US will be pretty familiar with this shop. To be honest, there isn’t anything spectacular or unique about this shop. Visit just incase you are wondering who Fung (owner of fly-hobby) is, and how does the store front of Flying-Hobby is like.

Aero-Fever (www.aero-fever.net)
Flat C, 7/F., Tai Lee Building
165-167 Pei Ho Street
Sham Shui Po, Kowloon
Hong Kong

Aero-fever is the HK distributor for RJX helicopters. Albert, owner of Aero-fever, is a very friendly and accommodating person who makes you feel very welcomed whenever he is around in the shop. If you are looking for any RC products and you are not able to find it in HK, try asking Albert and he may try to get it for you through his contacts.
