Introduction
With the recent advent in flybarless technology in RC helicopters, there are increasing number of products that offers this feature at an increasingly affordable price. Some of them comes with a 3-axis gyro, and others only comes with 2. To list a few:
- SK360 (http://www.skookumrobotics.com/)
- V-Stabi – VBAR (http://www.vstabi.de)
- Gyrobot
- Acro Control – 3X
- Helicommand
- CSM
For this flybarless project, i’ll be using the SK360 system.

Reasons are because:
- It is a 2-axis system, which means I can still use my current gyro, which is a Futaba GY611 w/ 9256, for my tail control. This leaves me with one axis less to setup on the flybarless system as I am already very comfortable with setting up my tail with the GY611 gyro system.
- Affordability and Availability. Among all other flybarless systems, SK360 is the most easily available to me in terms of shipping and purchasing. It only costs US$16 to ship it from Canada to Singapore, and it arrived within 6 days! I received the shipping order less than 24 hours from the time of payment. Compared to the rest of the systems in the market, the SK360 is by far the most affordable of them all, costing US$329.
- Online Support. SK360 is well supported by the users online. There are at least two threads on them, with users discussing about setup and posting pictures of their conversions. This two threads can be found on Helifreak and Runryder. Click on the links to access them. On top of that, the makers of SK360 has been constantly fixing issues and updating firmware in the past months. This can be seen from the updates on the right side of their website.
- Simplicity. I really like the integration of everything into one small rectangular box. It makes the system compact and easy to mount.
- Finless. Everybody knows finless. When finless says its good… damn it is good. Finless has a video of the setup and discuss thread on the SK360 flybarless system right here. It is really resassuring to know that finless is also using this flybarless systems as if all else fails, finless is there to support you
I’ll be using one of my eRaptors for this flybarless project. The setup is as follows:
- Thundertiger E550 (upgraded to 600 blades and boom)
- Custom Lower A123 compatiable frames (see them here!)
- Castle creations HV85 (SetRPM Governor Mode)
- Neumotors H1912/1.5Y
- Futaba GY611 w/ S9256
- Hitec HS-6985HB for cyclic servos (0.16s, 10+kg)
- JR 2.4Ghz technology for TX and RX
